The Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance was proud to stand with Hereditary Chief George Quocksister Jr. and many other wild salmon supporters on April 22/18 to witness him hand deliver an eviction notice to 3 fish farms.
April 22 was a spectacular Earth day as people from many backgrounds, including Dr. David Suzuki, responded to the invitation by Hereditary Chief George Quocksister Jr. to converge together on fish farms in his territory to capture more hard evidence that fish farms pose a very serious threat to wild salmon and herring, as well as their own farmed Atlantic salmon. The shocking pictures and videos captured diseased, sick and deformed farmed Atlantic salmon, as well as farmed salmon striking at endangered herring are convincing enough, yet there is peer-reviewed solid scientific evidence that supports the fact that open net pen fish farms are a failed experiment. Over and over, it has been proven that Canada’s regulatory regime is failing to defend wild salmon from open net pen fish farms. Like Norway, BC needs to move to closed containment on land in order to provide a safe passage for wild salmon – an essential measure for restoring our endangered wild salmon. Keep telling Premier John Horgan to honour his commitments to the Musgamagw, Namgis and Mamamlililulla Nations by not renewing fish farm tenures up for renewal June 20, 2018. My hands go up to all the intelligent, creative and inspiring people who are doing such a tremendous job of raising public awareness about the un-sustainability of the ocean aquaculture industry. Stay tuned for more information on the results of our collective efforts!
Our gratitude goes to Hereditary Chief George Quocksister Jr., and all who turned up!
