We learned some fascinating things at our latest rally, April 23, 2017 at the Walmart store, Eagle Landing, Chilliwack. We met Keith Windsor, of the Nuxalk Guardian Watchmen of the Bella Coola First Nation. The Nuxalk Guardian Watchmen work closely with the Nuxalk Fisheries Department that operates a scientific-based research facility that also conducts resource monitoring and enforcement activities to protect salmon and other species and their habitats. Keith said that Bella Coola was approached by the fish farm industry to place a farm in their territory and they refused to allow them to put one there. He expressed his gratitude for what we are doing and he is opposed to open net pen fish farms on the BC coast. We too are grateful for the great work done by the Watchmen! A woman from Tofino, who once worked at a fish processing factory, told us that wild salmon were beautiful to prepare, with good muscle tone, form and colour. Many farmed salmon she received were deformed, many with growths, and tissue so soft, you could push a spoon through it. YUK! Watch what you eat! .
