The Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance had a great time at the Aboriginal Arts and Culture Day in Abbotsford!
We were happy to support the sharing of First Nations’ culture, and enjoyed drumming and singing with Gracie! We handed out information and spoke to many people interested in learning about the impacts of fish farms to wild salmon, and human health concerns arising from the high levels of contamination in farmed salmon. There were many dancers, story tellers, flute music, information booths, and arts and craft tables! Master drum maker, Darren Charlie did a drum making workshop and Sonny McKalsie spoke about the significance and meaning of the house post in Sto:lo territory. Elder Rene Inkster told the people about Metis history and culture. We were honoured to have Chief Dalton Silver of Semath First Nation express his gratitude that people are acknowledging the event is on Matheqwi territory, good neighbours of the Semath people. Wonderful days like this inform and inspire everyone!
