THE NEED
Fish farms are a dire threat to the survival of wild salmon, with the spread of viruses and proliferation of sea lice.
Wild salmon are collapsing around those fish farms.

This past year, more hard evidence clearly shows fish farms continue to do serious harm to endangered wild salmon – but to date the federal and provincial governments have not removed a single fish farm. We are at the last stand for wild salmon in the Salish Sea.

Legal action is being taken by Indigenous defenders at this critical stage. They have a winning strategy that we can get behind – one that takes time and money. They deserve our political and financial support.

THE FUNDRAISER PADDLE
Our Goal is to raise $45,000 in donations.
The Last Stand for Wild Salmon PADDLE Event – a symbolic paddle from Sq’éwlets to Shxwhá:y Village, with big canoes from Vancouver Island and the Fraser River – is meant to raise public awareness of the need to ACT NOW.
The event seeks DONORS to sponsor Canoe Teams. Your donation will help pay for the legal actions underway. Please SPONSOR a Canoe, and help save wild salmon. Let’s PULL TOGETHER!

PADDLERS
All wild salmon defenders – experienced or new – are encouraged and called upon to join one of our five CANOE TEAMS.
Paddlers can register to join in on the Paddle Event HERE, and direct their friends and contacts to sponsor their own Canoe Team. It’s easy – just sign up and send your contacts a link. We’ll email you the details and a great PITCH email you can forward to others.

UPDATE: Paddler registrations are now full. Thank you to all who’ve signed up!

PARTNERS
Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance has partnered with Shxwhá:y Village to organize the PADDLE EVENT.

Our hands go up in gratitude to Chief Robert Gladstone, Council and Staff at Shxwhá:y – for their time, energy and generous contributions to the Event. Including but not limited to: planning participation, entering four Big Canoes, and hosting and providing the celebration feast after the Paddle.

Chief Andy Phillips of Sq’ewlets will be at the Canoe launch at Squawkum Campsite to welcome the Paddle and to show his solidarity for getting Atlantic salmon feedlot operations out of the BC coast! Thank you Chief Andy Phillips and the people of Sq’ewlets! OCM!
