Nov. 27, 2016 – Walmart, Mission

Excellent turnout at the Farmed Atlantic Salmon boycott today at the Mission Walmart today!

It was a rainy day, but people were energized by the sacred songs and Walmart customers were very receptive. We interacted with many and they showed their gratitude for what we are doing by taking the information packages and making donations towards stopping fish farms at the cash register. We encourage others to follow our suit in other municipalities across BC, Canada and the rest of the world. We stand in solidarity with Musgmagw Dzawada’enuxw who are evicting fish farms from their territory. We also sang songs in solidarity with Standing Rock – Water is Life! Stop DAPL!

The Wild Salmon Defenders Alliance actively supports Unist’ot’en Camp, Voice for the Voiceless camp, Lelu Island people against fracking, and those who are doing everything to stop Site C Dam. We support all efforts to stop Kinder Morgan. These all pose serious threats to our wild salmon! There is a better way to go! Get fish farms out of the water and onto land in containment! Let’s push for a rapid transition to renewable energy, developing storage units using hydrogen, infrastructure, internet energy transfers of energy, increasing public transit and flooding the market with electric cars.

Please go online and support Fin Donnelly’s parliamentary Bill C 228 he has before the House of Commons now. Write a letter to all MP’s you know and ask them to vote for Bill C 228 as this would result in legislating fish farms out of the oceans and moving them on land in containment. The Norwegian fish farmers who do not want to move their fish farms on land can shut down their open net pen fish farms down and go back to Norway. Open net pen fish farms do not belong on the migration routes of wild salmon!

We put a lot of joy in the work we do, and this keeps us energized to continue the work as we know we are making a difference in human health and defending wild salmon from destructive open net pen fish farms and other industrial harm.
